Hastings update - and sneak cladding preview
We visited the Jerwood Gallery site in Hastings last Wednesday, a sunny day which showed the town at its best. It has really changed in the two years we have been working down there - the new college building now complete and operational, with students streaming in and out; new restaurants and shops; the amazing East Hill lift finally working again; a sense that, despite the recession, there is an optimism in town. Around our site, the highways works to narrow Rock-a-Nore road and create a much safer, more pedestrian-friendly environment are finished, and the foundations are in for the new community building and public WCs (designed by Tim Ronalds Architects) are done. Our building will be on site in the next few weeks.
We were down to see a sample panel of our cladding - a gorgeous hand-glazed ceramic tile - on site. Here's a sneak preview of the wonderful black pewter glaze that we are using.
